Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

I found these cookies on allrecipes.com last year when I was making cookies at the last minute.  I didn't have any chocolate chips, condensed milk, brown sugar, butter, or any of the ingredients you need for traditional Christmas cookies.  This recipe was great because it took very simple ingredients, was easy to make, and was great for involving children. It is also a very striking presentation, and adds some neat colour to a cookie tray.

The dough needs to be made ahead of time and refrigerated for 4 hours (I only did it for 2 and it worked).  All you do is roll small balls of it and coat them in icing sugar -  a perfect activity for children who want to "help."   When it came out of the oven, I put a small chocolate kiss on top, but it works well without that too.

Another variation is to use mint extract instead of vanilla - creating a great chocolate-mint cookie...mmmm.

Here's the recipe. Enjoy!

  1. I just made these this afternoon, Mar, and they are *so* good! They even turned out great without the refrigeration - I forgot that step - whoops!
