MR -So with this hurricane Sandy that came through, we were all warned to make sure we were prepared to support ourselves and our families for 72 hours with no power. This is something that we should be ready for anyways, and I know that there are lots of brochures showing us how to get ready. I've just never done it, even though I should.
And then our power went out, while I was home alone with the boys. I had just bought a 6-pack of LED flashlights, which was great! We were fine for the few hours that our power was out (though our neighbours were out for over 24 hours). This reminded me, though, that I need to do something to be prepared for emergencies. So in the next few weeks, especially with winter coming, I'll try to build up my supply, and I'll post about my progress - there's a lot of good stuff on Pinterest, too!
And of course, my mason jars to the rescue!! They were great for putting tealights inside. Provided lots of light, with little risk of catching things on fire.
So that's my goal over the next few weeks. I'll keep you posted!
That's a great idea. It's not something that I've done before, either, though I did make sure that I knew where my flashlights and candles were before I went to bed that night, and was also ready to fill up the bathtub with water in case the water turned off!
ReplyDeleteAlso, we made sure that both of our propane tanks were filled up so that we'd still be able to cook things (the meat in our freezer!!) if we were stuck without power for several days.
Also! I just saw in the IKEA flyer this morning that they have their 20 pack of candle sticks on for $4.99 right now - it would be great to have at least one of those around for 'just in case' as well!
