Superhero Accessories #4: Batman's Mask & Cuffs

This last costume came together rather easily.  We had the black cape from a few years ago.  We had just gotten the batman t-shirt from a friend.  So all we needed was a batman mask.

I did a Pinterest search for some ideas. The one we ended up liking was a broken link, so we just had to wing it by looking at it.

We used cardboard, and I was going to use that black electrical tape to cover it, though I wasn't sure how well that would work.  Later, though, I realized that we had some shiny black spray paint from a project last year, so I thought I'd give that a try.

I first eyeballed a rough drawing for the pattern.  After a bit of trial and error, I came up with a pretty good shape.

We traced it on cardboard and cut it out.

We did the spray-painting outside and got some pretty cool side effects!

I also made some cuffs from toilet paper rolls, trimming the ends to a point, and spray-painting black as well

I like how the shine from the spray paint showed up on the mask.

I'm going to staple some elastic to the mask so it will stay on.  My son really wanted the Batman logo on the cuffs, but I wasn't sure how to put get it on nicely - whether to paint it or glue something on.  We might try something later on.

  1. Wow! That looks GREAT! Great ideas just for having fun dressing up around the house, not just for a costume! Thanks!
