Lego Party!

Our house has become a serious Lego centre.  Having 4 boys who love to build things, it's a perfect activity for them.  Keeps them busy, and is great for fine-motor skills and hand/eye coordination, not to mention creativity, spatial awareness and imaginative play.

 

I've been pinning Lego party ideas for a number of years, and our newest 7-year old said he'd love a Lego party. It was a great solution, since we couldn't really plan on being outdoors at this time of year. I didn't want to have much of a fuss (with the broken wrist and all), and these ideas seemed simple enough!

 

We first created a #7 to hang on the door.  Then it fell and we had to re-make it. Several times.  Then we hung it on the wall instead!

The cake for his actual birthday celebration was nice and easy - a Lego man face.  I went really  simple, and he loved it.

For the party, we did cupcakes with Lego candies from the Bulk Barn. I also bought some extra candies to put in their treat bags. I also found a great Spiderman MegaBlocks set at Dollarama for $3, which was perfect for their treat bag.

We moved our awesome Lego board into the living room so there was space for all 8 boys to work. We started with about a half an hour of free lego building time.  Then we did a timed challenge to build the tallest tower that wouldn't fall down.  It was harder than it sounds!!

The next game was using a straw to suck up Lego bricks one by one and put them into a bowl. This,  too, was a challenge!

 Next was a game of Pin the Mouth on the Lego Man.  The boys really enjoyed this one!

The party finished with cupcakes and more Lego building time.  There are so many great ideas out there for challenges, relay races, and more.  It was a fun party for all, and wasn't too expensive (and I could manage most of it with a broken wrist...)
