Pinecone Garland

Pinecone Garland found on Pinterest.  Too fancy for me!

I've been (p)inspired this year by all of the pinecone crafts on Pinterest and I wanted to make a pinecone garland.  However, I didn't really find the tutorial I was looking for - I wanted something simple and rustic.  I collected pinecones in November as they fell off of the trees, and put them in a big bowl.  Then I sat down with Pinterest.  The above photo is cute, but looks like more work than I wanted to put into it.  I had a roll of dollar store twine in the drawer and wanted to use that - I thought it would look good with the pinecones.

I found one site that was sort of useful, it was a little bit what I was looking for - but the instructions said to tie the yarn around the stem of the pinecone.  I don't know about you, but I don't recall ever seeing a pinecone with a stem.  Of the 50+ pinecones that I collected this fall, I could not fine a single one with a stem.  I didn't think that white glue would work, and I can't find my glue gun, so i decided that I would wrap the twine around the inside base of the pinecone, over and under the branch-like protrusions (what in the world are those called?!).  I didn't measure the distances between the pinecones, so it looks a little hap-hazard, but I'm quite pleased with it and I think that it gives a low-key, seasonal, festive feel to the livingroom!
