MR - A year or so ago, I pinned this pin for homemade hamburger buns. It is a HUGE recipe, and it is made by hand. Since we have a breadmaker, I prefer to make my dough in there, so I adjusted the recipe to make fewer, and to work in a bread maker.
I love this recipe - it's so versatile, it tastes great, and it's quick to make. I find that hamburger buns are getting SO expensive these days.
Recipe
In your bread pail, combine the following ingredients:
1 3/4c. warm water
2 Tbsp. yeast
1/4 c. olive oil
1/4 c. honey
1/2 T. salt
1 egg, beaten
5 1/4 c. flour (any combination of white and whole wheat). We like half and half, but this batch here was only white - all we had on hand.
Allow the breadmaker to run on the dough cycle. When finished, roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch thick. I do it in two batches. Cut out circles using a large glass (experiment with the best size for you).
Place on greased cookie sheets, and allow to rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes. Bake at 400 degrees for about 10 minutes.

DeleteWe have been through about 7 breadmakers in the past 11 years. We use them every two days or so for a loaf of bread, and pizza dough every weekend (so we wear out the motor in a year or so). I find the homemade bread is more filling for everyone than the storebought stuff. We definitely save money too. I usually buy the bread makers for about 15-30 dollars at Value Village or Kijiji.
