Reusable Produce Bags

MR - I just discovered this great blog, The Year of Less.  The author and her husband are going to one thing each day to simplify their lives - what a great idea!  I've already done a few of her challenges, like going through your  kitchen cupboards, and thinning through our kids' toy collections.  Others, like the most recent, are great ideas in theory, but I'm not sure if I'm quite ready for dreadlocks.  Interesting reading, though.

One idea was a simple drawstring bag for produce, made out of old sheer curtians, or sheer fabric. The post gave a very straightforward tutorial for making these simple bags. I was able to sew up 6 of them in an hour (with four boys underfoot).

I made them in various sizes, and used different types of ribbon/string to thread through the top. Rather than some sheer curtians, I used a very loose weave fabric.  I imagine it would be great for letting the produce breathe.  The nice part is that you don't need to be a great seamstress to sew this!! It's so easy, and no one will care if it's not exactly square or perfectly lined up.

She suggests not to wash them too often because of the loose weave in the fabric - a good rinse every now and then works well.

Now I just have to remember to take them with me when I shop!
