Gluten Free Cinnamon Heart Chex Treats for Valentine's Day Snack
We love Chex in our house. Not only are they gluten free, but they're one of our favourite cereals to use when making treats! From Puppy Chow to Chex Mix and the fantastic variations of each, to crispy rice cereal squares - those little puffy squares are deserving vessels of yummy goodness.

I have to admit. I wasn't going to post this recipe. It doesn't mix up as nicely as I had hoped that it would, and it doesn't look at ALL pretty when it's in the pan. But. It tastes SO GOOD! It is so freaking addictive! So, once you cut them with pretty heart shaped cookie cutters & drizzle them with some white chocolate, they look positively edible!

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup cinnamon heart candies
  • 1 250g bag of marshmallows or 4 cups mini marshmallows
  • 7 cups of Chex cereal (original)
Directions:
  1. Grease a 9x13 pan.
  2. Melt butter/margarine in large sauce pan on medium heat, stir in cinnamon heart candies. When candies begin to melt, turn heat to low. Stir every few minutes. Mixture will become gummy & a little hard to work with, keep at it. It's worth it.
  3. Measure cereal into large mixing bowl.
  4. When butter & candies have finally come together, keep pan on low heat, add marshmallows & stir constantly until well combined & marshmallows are melted.
  5. Pour marshmallow candy mixture over cereal, and with a large spoon or stand mixer, mix well. This will take some muscle or make a bit of a mess of your stand mixer, whichever you choose, but work quickly while the marshmallow mixture is still hot.
  6. Press into greased pan, let sit for 5 minutes.
  7. Use cookie cutters to cut hearts and set aside to cool down. (The longer you wait to cut, the harder it will be. Trust me.)
  8. Drizzle with melted white chocolate & decorate with sprinkles, if desired.
A few notes: Soaking your pan, bowl, & utensils in hot water for five minutes will dissolve the pink gooey mess that you'll be left with. Trust me. This recipe really is worth it.

If you want to stick to the original Chex Cereal Treat Bars recipe, head over here. It's pretty delicious, too. Just not as awesome as these cinnamon heart ones. ;)
