Birthdays are always a pretty special thing to celebrate - something that becomes radically more apparent when little ones come into your life - whether they're your own, your grandchildren, nieces & nephews...- it's pretty hard not to get caught up in the excitement.
To be honest, we didn't go all out for 1st birthdays in our house - each of our 2 little ones were gifted with a very exciting helium filled foil balloon, waffles with whipped cream & strawberries for breakfast, and cake at supper time. It was very clear, however, that that wouldn't go down well for the 2nd birthday for our little guy last February - so we invited a few close families over, and celebrated Snowman Style!
This was actually a really inexpensive and easy theme to do - I baked the cakes in tiered-sized springform pans, iced with white icing and decorated with chocolate and candy! I bought a 1" circle punch, punched a whole bunch of black circles, and transformed paper plates into a Frosty banner! We brought out all of the snowman paraphernalia that we had in the house from Christmas, and we had our decorations! Hendrik was thrilled with the result, and everyone had a great time. This year, he's turning 3. In a week. And I still have no idea what we're going to do, but the party is going to be delayed until after our trip to Florida - so I have a bit of time, still!
This month, Sears Canada is celebrating a 1st birthday of their own - it has been one year since Carter's & OshKosh were welcomed onto the floor in Sears stores across Canada! I don't know about you, but Carter's & OshKosh are pretty much my all-time fave brands to dress my wee little ones in - they're super cute, very stylish, and always so cozy & comfortable! So, I would say that this partnership with Sears is totally something to celebrate!!
In the very European tradition, they're celebrating this birthday by giving you a gift: On this blog, you can win a $50 Sears gift certificate, and over at the Sears website, you could win a family of four trip to Orlando, sponsored by Carter's & OshKosh! Your trip includes Trip includes hotel and air (direct flights from Canada-destination!); Full-size rental car with unlimited mileage and loss damage waiver insurance; and Passes to an Orlando attraction and dining passes! Who's excited?!

My most memorable birthday was when my parents took me to playland on my birthday. We had such a fun day!
ReplyDeleteWe always kept it very low-key for the first birthday - once even just a Rice Krispie with a candle in it :) One tradition that we always have to look through the birthday child's first-year scrapbook together. What a joy to see how much they have grown.
ReplyDeleteWe have been keeping all three of our kids birthdays low key with just family but that will change with our oldest now in Grade 1...
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that I do like planning birthday parties :). We still keep it relatively inexpensive (I buy all the decorations at the dollarstore), but I do love planning a good themed party! Helps that the girls are two for one ;). So far we've only done parties for family/close church friends, but in the future I might tone down the party themes when we start adding school/friend parties to the mix (Probably next year when J is in grade 1)! I loved H's snowman theme, btw! It looked great! Curious to see what you try for his 3rd birthday!
ReplyDeleteWe had a big family gathering for my oldest but then we moved really far away from all of our family and friends so my second son had a low key 1st birthday with just us...but it was still fun!
