The first time I saw this pin for a travel toothbrush holder, I thought it was a brilliant idea. Every time we go somewhere, I find a plastic bag, throw everyone's toothbrushes in it, and they all touch and share germs. The bag gets all sticky and I throw it out after because it's so dirty. With this genius idea, each toothbrush gets its own section, and they don't touch. You can throw it in the wash afterwards, so it's always clean!!
Even though it looked pretty simple, I clicked through it to see how to make it. It was a link to someone's Etsy site, which is a great little thing to make and sew. But it's also so very easy to make yourself if you'd rather not spend $8.50 on it.
You don't need to be a great seamstress...all you need to do is sew a few straight lines.
1. Keep the trimmed end flat. You will need to figure out approximately how far to fold up the other side of the washcloth - just far enough to cover the brush plus a little extra.
2. Decide how many "pockets" you want - we have 6 people, so I made 6 slots. Some people might want an extra one for toothpaste, but you won't want them any closer than this. Since it was about 30 cm across, I drew lines every 5 cm and stitched from the bottom to the top.
3. Cut a piece of ribbon about 50 cm long, fold it in half, and sew it to the edge of the washcloth.
Roll it up, and you're done!
These are so quick and easy to sew up. They would make great little Christmas gifts to give, or even to make for a bazaar or fundraiser.
Again, go here for the original Etsy link.
Marya, I love this idea! Totally going to do this:)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Christine!!! :)
DeleteWow! Love it! AND you could use it for razors, combs, make-up brushes. SO simple! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis also saves space in your bathroom since there’s no need for racks and bulky holders. Hanging this on a bathroom wall would certainly make it better! I’m definitely showing this to my mom. I’m sure she’d like the idea.

Good idea to hang it up!
DeleteThis toothbrush holder will not only save space in your bathroom, but it can also be an excellent traveling kit! It is so handy that you can carry it wherever you go. Lastly, using this holder made of cloth can surely protect your toothbrush from accumulation of bacteria. A bacteria-free toothbrush is germ-free as well!
ReplyDeleteYes - I love that it can be washed, and also separates everyone's toothbrushes from eachother.
DeleteNice! It’s a simple yet effective way to produce your own toothbrush holder. It’s easy to make and you can even come up with a unique idea that will make your holder more creative! ;)
