Peach Sangria Blanco

Book Club Recipe
So, last week, just as we were packing up the van to leave for the cottage, our Ninja Purolator Delivery Lady came by with a giant box.  I'm used to this. Well, I'm not used to actually seeing the Purolator lady - she typically manages to drive up, pull out the boxes, leave them on the front porch, and get away again all without me even noticing anyone was out front. She doesn't so much like to actually interact with her delivery recipients, that would just add too much time to her work day.  DH is an independent IT guy, and we have boxes arriving daily for different clients.  In fact, I have four stacked on the kitchen floor at the moment.
Anyhow. I digress.  We got a box. But the awesome thing was this: the box was addressed to ME! What! Opening the box revealed some tasty boxes of Golden Graham S'mores bars, Fibre1 Protein bars, Nature Valley Protein bars, Cinnamon Toast Crunch snack bars, a couple of boxes of cereal, and Chinese Lanterns, a lovely glass drink dispenser with a spout, placemats....  So. Fun! This came courtesy of my friends over at Life Made Delicious - it's my first year ever being a brand ambassador for anyone, so this was totally unexpected and amazing!
Millions of Peaches, Peaches for Me!
I was scheduled to host my 'Wine & Cheesy Bookclub' the following Tuesday, which would be the perfect time to break out the outdoor party gear!  What is a Wine & Cheesy Bookclub? I'm glad you asked!  It's a wonderful small group of ladies (who don't get together nearly often enough), who choose a cheesy book to read (think 'Sophia Kinsella', 'Mary Higgens Clark', 'Joanne Fluke', and you'll be right on track) and gather to drink wine, each cheese & chocolate, and talk about everything but the book that they just read.  That, my friends, is a Wine and Cheesy Book Club.

The new drink dispenser was begging for a batch of Sangria, and I was more than happy to oblige.  For the best results, Sangria should have 5-8 or so hours to sit & chill in the fridge before serving, allowing the fruit & alcohol maximum time to mingle.
And, bonus!  I kept the leftover sangria and fruit in the dispenser, stuck it in the fridge, and the next morning before I hosted a BBQ lunch for some of the lovely ladies that I used to work with, I poured in a can of apple juice and half  bottle of lemonade - we had a 'sangria-type' punch that the ladies could drink during the work day.  Then, I reserved the fruit in the fridge until the end of the day, and DH & I sat back and watched a few Arrested Developments with a bowls of fresh, slightly liquored, fruit.  It's the drink that just keeps on giving!

Peach Sangria Blanco
Ingredients
  • 1 bottle of white wine (I used Pinot Gris)
  • 1 can of Mango Punch concentrate, mixed with half the water called for
  • 1 cup of lemonade
  • 2 shots of Dark Rum
  • 3 Peaches, sliced into 1-2" cubes
  • 2 cups of grapes, sliced in half
Directions
  • Toss the prepared peaches & grapes into your drink dispenser / pitcher.
  • Pour the wine & rum directly onto the fruits & let sit for 10 minutes.
  • Add the double strength punch & the lemonade.
  • Stir, refrigerate for several hours, serve.
If you're serving out of a dispenser like I was, you may want to provide a ladle with which your guests may scoop out some fruit for their cup.  Everyone likes liquor-soaked fruit! :)

Do you belong to a book club? Is it a serious, we only read award winning books, or just an excuse to get together, like ours is? I'd LOVE  to hear what kind of books your clubs pick up!

Head over to Life Made Delicious to check out some of these recipes that go over very well at our book club!
